Watercolor has been a passion of Katherine’s for many years, beginning with her first composition of a cat sitting on a windowsill at age 5. She studied Sumi painting with visionary Pacific Northwest artist George Tsutakawa at the University of Washington.
Katherine is an avid hiker and backpacker, and enjoys exploring the wilderness areas of the Cascade Mountains and on the Washington coast. Many of her paintings are inspired by vistas that are miles from the nearest highway. She tries to capture the beauty of nature and the effects of light and color in her watercolor paintings.
